The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Win at The Game Awards — A New Category May Address This Issue

Each time a significant honors show approaches, there’s always a clamor for the addition of new categories to recognize unsung work and delight the passions of followers dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator made the case for a horror game category. That would rule. Equally deserving are board games, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist for pushing forward since similar to blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification supporting my request remains most pressing above others. The demand is this: There should be a category for puzzle games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and typically spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that cinema institutions don’t do it. But it is an unavoidable compromise within the realm of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range they hardly constitute as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies presently include classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these six categories successfully include many game types, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Think about these outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Which classification works between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

The Representation Problem

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles launched regularly without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated for anything that year
  • A different innovative game missed out during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment that year
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often compact experiences, but the art of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among the most-played games worldwide continuing this trend for many years.

The famous puzzle experience challenges popular creative games claiming status as most purchased experience; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and engaging across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. You could fill a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these represent titles without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers operate at the hard edge game development, developing some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
